The Canadian Red Cross, Region of York, is offering a great opportunity for the youth in our community.
A WEEK FOR YOU – A WEEK FOR HUMANITY
For those ages 14-25 you are encouraged to become active leaders in the local and global Red Cross community. You will learn the skills necessary to take action.
This is a week of workshops to educate youth on the mission and programs of the Red Cross and become a Red Cross youth leader in your community.

Facilitation Skills
The course runs from Monday August 23rd to August 27th, 9 am to 5 pm
AGENDA
MONDAY, AUGUST 23
9:00AM – 12:30PM INTRODUCTION TO RED CROSS/RED CRESCENT MOVEMENT
A 3.5 hour fun and interactive workshop that covers the Red Cross Red Crescent Movement’s origins, history, Fundamental Principles, International Humanitarian Law and so much more.
1:00PM – 5:00PM EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS – BUG-OUT & EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS
Your reaction to a disaster may depend on how prepared you are for that disaster. The Red Cross educates individuals, families and communities on the steps of being prepared and being self-sufficient for 72 hours should a disaster occur. The Emergency Preparedness Workshop will look in-depth into local risks, making a plan and building emergency kits.
During the Bug Out program we will look into the steps needed to prevent disease transmission in our daily life.
TUESDAY, AUGUST 24
9:00AM – 5:00PM HUMANITARIAN ISSUES PROGRAM
Youth are introduced to workshops on topics such as: International Humanitarian Law, Landmines, Children & War, Social Justice & Diversity and Peace. Develop your leadership skills and become more actively involved in your community.
WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 25
9:00AM – 5:00PM EMERGENCY FIRST AID & CPR C
The course includes Adult, Child and Baby CPR and choking procedures. AED (Automated External Defibrillation) certification is also included. First Aid topics include: heart attacks, respiratory distress, strokes, bleeding, shock, fainting, and allergic reactions.
THURSDAY, AUGUST 26
9:00AM – 5:00PM PREVENTION IN MOTION
An abuse prevention program that defines different types of abuse (physical, emotional and sexual and neglect), the indicators and the effects on children and youth. Participants gain knowledge about the barriers and benefits to preventing abuse, and learn ways to proactively build safer relationships within organizations and communities.
FRIDAY, AUGUST 27
9:00AM – 4:00PM FACILITATION SKILLS WORKSHOP
We will be covering many aspects of facilitating and training for youth.
4:00PM – 5:00PM
Celebration and discussion of future opportunities. Where do you go from here?
A certificate will be awarded for each of these programs.

Cost: $55/week - spaces are limited
To guarantee a spot full payment must be received.
The Red Cross reserves the right to cancel due to under enrolment or unforeseen circumstances where upon a full refund will be granted.
A one year Red Cross commitment is required of 5-10 hrs per month.
