Experience summer programs; borrow books from a curated collections, explore local art and culture with  Experience Passes, and discover the “Library of Things.”  

Richmond Hill Public Library is delighted to invite you to visit the library for exciting events, activities, and collections you can explore all summer long.

Summer Reading Club (SRC) 
On June 24, RHPL will open registration for The TD Summer Reading Club—Canada’s largest, free summer reading program for kids ages 0-12 of all interests and abilities. This year's theme is "Out of this World." The reading challenge inspires children to develop a lifelong love of reading. SRC runs from July 2 to August 24. RHPL will be hosting a launch party at Hillcrest Mall on June 28. Throughout the summer, visit your local branch for a weekly SRC meet-ups to connect with new friends and talk about what you’re reading.  

July/August Programs 
Mark your calendars! Registration for July and August library programs opens on Friday, June 14 at 9:30 a.m. Get a sneak peek of upcoming programs and workshops on our new events platform—Outdoor Family Storytime, Junior Writers Corner, Reading Buddies, to name a few. Pick up the printed guide at your local branch or visit for more information. 

Library of Things  

A new "Library of Things" provides free access to a diverse range of household items, tools, and equipment you can borrow. This innovative project aims to expand the library's offerings beyond traditional books and media with sports and fitness equipment, home and garden tools, and more.  

Experience Passes 
Borrow an Experience Pass with your library membership and get free admission to select museums, art galleries, and parks.

Explore the Collection 
Expand your summer reading list with a specially curated Summer Collections.

  • Keep kids engaged and entertained beyond novels with DIY books, science experiment guides, and crafting inspiration.
  • Looking to unleash your creativity? Explore our digital resource, CreativeBug, offering a plethora of free craft options for all skill levels.
  • Stream movies and music for free with Kanopy and Freegal.
  • Stay up to date with the Olympics and summer sports with unlimited access to The Athletic, a sports journalism website by the New York Times.
  • Also got video games to borrow for those rainy days.
  • And while you are at the Central Library, why not take a moment to relax with a coffee at our café and enjoy the library's vibrant atmosphere!

Get Outside 
Embrace the sunny days ahead with an array of outdoor resources designed to fuel your summer adventures.

  • Dive into the collection of books on nature and outdoor activities, perfect for exploring the great outdoors or planning your next adventure.
  • Explore regions of Ontario with travel guides or attend one of our star-gazing programs for a celestial experience.
  • Be sure to grab one of the birdwatching backpacks, available for borrowing in July, packed with essentials for your outdoor excursions.

Summer Library Love Contest: #RHPLSummerLove 

Join the Summer Library Love Contest! Share how you have enjoyed and utilized the library this summer on social media. Whether you are diving into a gripping novel, attending a workshop, exploring their digital resources, or borrowing items from the Library of Things, they want to see how you are making the most of your library membership. 

To enter, simply post a photo or video on social media using the hashtag #RHPLSummerLove and tag the RHPL account. Share what you have been enjoying at the library, whether it is a cozy reading spot, a fun program, or a borrowed item. Get creative and show us how the library has enriched your summer experience for a chance to win some RHPL apparel!
