Deputy Mayor Godwin Chan Elected to Board of Directors

Richmond Hill Regional and Local Councillor/Deputy Mayor Godwin Chan was elected to return to the National Board of Directors at the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) for the 2023-2024 term at the annual conference on May 28, 2023.  The FCM is the national voice for Canada's local governments.

The FCM has been the national voice for Canada’s local governments since 1901, speaking for more than 2,100 municipalities of all sizes, from Canada's cities and rural communities, to northern communities and 20 provincial and territorial municipal associations. Together, they represent more than 92% of all Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Municipal leaders from across Canada assemble each year to set FCM policy on key issues.

Regional and Local Councillor Chan served on the FCM Board from 2013-2020 and again beginning in early 2023. Since 2011, he has served on several FCM Standing Committees including Community Safety and Crime Prevention; International Relations; Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements along with Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation Policy.

“I am honoured to be elected once again to the FCM Board of Directors and thank my colleagues for their support. I look forward to bringing attention to the critical concerns and challenges municipalities experience as they continue to grow and evolve. More than ever, during these post pandemic times, local communities in Canada must have critical resources to address pressing issues of housing, infrastructure, homelessness, mental health and climate adaptation. As an FCM Director, I will continue to serve as part of the strong national voice to champion positive improvements to Richmond Hill and York Region.” Regional and Local Councillor/Deputy Mayor Godwin Chan
