On April 5, the City of Richmond Hill was informed of the resignation of Crystal Yu.  As permitted by the Municipal Election Act, 1996, the YRDSB requires the City Clerk to hold a By-election to fill the vacancy in the office of York Region District School Board Trustee in Richmond Hill Wards 1, 2 and 4.

The City will begin accepting nominations on Friday, April 12, 2024.

A By-election will be held on Monday, July 15, 2024. Elected by residents, the Trustee is guided by the Education Act and responsible for helping set operational policies for all public schools in York Region. The current term will end November 2026.

To run for office as a School Board Trustee, a candidate must be:

  • a Canadian citizen
  • at least 18 years of age
  • a resident in the area of jurisdiction of the board (York Region).

To file a nomination, eligible candidates should email [email protected] to make an appointment with the Office of the City Clerk at Richmond Hill’s Municipal Offices (225 East Beaver Creek Road).

Nominations will be accepted until 2 p.m. on Friday, May 31, 2024.

Potential candidates are not permitted to raise funds or spend funding on a campaign until their nomination form has been accepted by the Office of the City Clerk.
